Help for the edTPA

One-on-One Assistance Office Hours in Poe 530 on Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00 or by appointment.

Course Thread One:  Planning for your edTPA The sessions in this thread are designed to help candidates plan for their edTPA experience.  Although there is no work component in these sessions, candidates will have the opportunity to ask specific questions regarding their specific program requirements.

Writing Lesson Plans

Thursday, August 27 (Poe 320) and Thursday, January 14 (loc TBA) 5:00-6:30

In this session, we will discuss the requirements of the edTPA learning segment including, but not limited to:  central focus, academic language, format of lesson plans, consideration of Tasks 2 and 3 in design, and inclusion of knowledge of students.

edTPA Assessment

Thursday, September 3 (Poe 320) and Thursday, January 21 (loc TBA) 5:00-6:30

In this session, we will discuss Task 3, assessment.  Specific topics include:  how to design and assessment for edTPA, how to give feedback, and using assessment to guide further instruction.

Responding to and Understanding Commentary Prompts

Thursday, September 10 (Poe 320) and Thursday, January 28 (loc TBA) 5:00-6:30

This session is designed to help candidates break down the edTPA prompts to determine exactly what is being asked of them.  We will discuss how to use this analysis to guide edTPA responses in all three task commentaries.

Planning to Video

Thursday, October 1 (Poe 320) and Thursday, Feb. 4 (loc TBA)  5:00-6:30

In this session, we will discuss the requirements and rubrics for Task 2 and analyze sample videos and their effectiveness.  Guests from METRC will address technical concerns of video.

Make-up Orientation

Thursday, January 7 (loc TBA) 5:00-6:30

This make-up orientation is for any students who missed the student teaching orientation in August or would like a refresher.  No PGUs will be offered for this session.

Course Thread Two:  Work Sessions  These Saturday work sessions are structured to help candidates draft and edit their commentary prompts or artifacts for each task.  The calendar assumes that candidates will teach and record their edTPA learning segment during the first three weeks of October (Fall student teachers) or the month of February (Spring student teachers).  Please register for sessions in SAGE.

Task 1 Rubrics and Work Session

Saturday, September 26 (Poe 320) Saturday, January 30 (loc TBA) 10:00-Noon

This session is designed for candidates who have started work on their lesson plans.  The first hour will be spent breaking down the rubrics for Task One; the second hour is dedicated for working on Task One lesson plans and/or commentary.  If enough candidates have a draft prepared, we will peer edit.  This session relies heavily on collaboration.

Task 2 Rubrics and Work Session

Saturday, October 24 (Poe 320)  Saturday, March 5 (loc TBA) 10:00-Noon

This session is designed for candidates who have video recorded their learning segment.  The first hour will be spent breaking down the rubrics for Task Two;; the second hour is dedicated for working on Task Two commentary or troubleshooting video issues with a special guest from METRC.  If enough candidates have a draft prepared, we will peer edit.  This session relies heavily on collaboration.

Task 3 Rubrics and Work Session

Saturday, November 7 (Poe 320) and  Saturday, March 19 (loc TBA) 10:00-Noon

This session is designed for candidates who have taught their learning segment.  The first hour will be spent breaking down the rubrics for Task Three;; the second hour is dedicated for working on Task Three commentaries or, if enough candidates have a draft prepared, peer editing..  This session relies heavily on collaboration.
